Adopt a Child:
Build a Forever Family
Professional Family Care Services actively recruits prospective parents who want to adopt and give a child a loving permanent home. We know this requires maturity, tremendous patience, strength and much love. We are looking for loving, secure people with the flexibility and determination to take on the responsibility of caring for another human being.
We are a licensed adoption agency, a local affiliate of the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN) overseen by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, and we offer our prospective parents all the advantages of that network, including the ability to preview profiles of children waiting for adoption.
Our children are a lively and diverse group. Most often they have been in foster care.
Sometimes the children we help come from other counties or across state lines. Sometimes we have local boys and girls in foster care who become eligible for adoption. These children are usually over the age of five.
Some of our children are minorities, some may have a physical, emotional or learning problem. Sometimes we have brothers and sisters who want to stay together.
Encouraging Words from a Parent who Adopted Four Children
Karen Gaydos and her husband, Frank, were foster parents who adopted two boys, ages six and eight. They later adopted two daughters. Karen’s thoughts may be helpful to others who are considering adoption.

Adoption is an extremely rewarding experience, but it can also pose challenges. At Professional Family Care Services we strive to help prospective parents not only through the application and approval processes, but also after adoption.
We help families deal with typical problems and unexpected difficulties. We offer many support services, including respite care, adoption advocacy and local help through other community agencies.
Our staff is knowledgeable and very experienced, and we work hard to help each adoptive family succeed.
Expenses are minimal when you adopt a child through the PA SWAN network. You may also receive an Adoption Tax Credit. Click here for more information about adoption assistance.
We try to help our families compete the adoption process as quickly and efficiently as possible. It usually takes several months.
There is a formal application, a medical health check and a review of financial records. Prospective parents are required to undergo a criminal background check and have a child abuse clearance. There is also a home study in which one of our staff members visits your home to be sure it is a safe and healthy place to raise a child.
